Spotlight on… The Culture List, a free mobile app boasting a comprehensive directory of cultural institutions and activities in the greater Los Angeles area, and its founder, Elizabeth Pezza.
As a marketing professional in the museum space, this probably was a no-brainer to you. What’s The Culture List looking to do, beyond getting people to these destinations?
With The Culture List app, anyone can be a tourist in their town. Information on hundreds of museums, aquariums, zoos, gardens, science centers, significant architecture and historical sites can now be carried in your pocket. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, seeking weekend activities or date ideas, The Culture List has something for everyone. We also have a website that features the most comprehensive Free Museum Days list available, and a blog that highlights cultural selections and curated lists. Finally, to help grow our community we hold fun social events every month, for people to come together and enjoy unique cultural experiences.

What sets The Culture List apart from its competitors?
It’s our focus on discovering destinations — the hidden gems you didn’t even know were there. We have started by shining a light on the cultural world of museums and community spaces, which have tons to offer but are easily overlooked. We have also worked hard to build a platform that cuts out the noise and gets the user to the information that’s relevant to them, by their interests, budget, location and schedule.
Let’s talk about your team. Can you share what the experience was like in seeking a CTO?
Well, The Culture List would not exist without my CTO. I hear the struggles of my fellow entrepreneurs every day of how difficult it is to find a talented, hard-working, and cost-effective CTO. I am so blessed to have found a technical partner in this endeavor who was willing to dedicate as much as I have to making The Culture List a success. Lucas is my partner in life as well as in business and he is the one who encouraged me to take the leap and start this business in the first place. Not only is he a brilliant engineer, he is my built-in support system.
What’s next for The Culture List?
Right now we are working on expanding our content, growing our customer base, and seeking strategic investors for our seed round. Our long-term goal is to expand to other cities and genres, making us the Trip Advisor for culture.
